Ms. Mercado is a Cinematographer
born and raised in Mexico City. She has a BA in Communications,
several camera & lighting workshops from The International Film
and Video Workshops in Rockport, Maine and a MFA in Cinematography
from the American Film Institute in Los Angeles, California.
Hilda has an extensive
background as a professional camera assistant and camera operator,
working across the border between Mexico and the US with credits
in feature films, commercials and television series.
In 1996 Hilda’s
work was given recognition when she was invited to join the camera
union (STPyC) as one of the first camerawomen in Mexico's film industry.
Hilda is also a member of the International Camera Guild (Local
600) and in 2006 she was invited to join the Mexican Society of
Cinematographers (AMC) where membership is possible by invitation
only.
Hilda received the
student "Emmy" by the Academy of Television Art and Sciences
(ATAS), for her work as Producer & Cinematographer for the film
"A Piece of Earth". The 23-minute short
won 12 International awards and was selected for the cinematography
competition at the International Film Festival of the Art of Cinematography
"Camerimage" in Poland. In 2006 "A Piece of Earth"
gave her a Cinematography award at the International Cinematographer’s
Guild (ICG) Cinematographer Showcase.
In 2007 Ms. Mercado
received an Artistic Achievement in Cinematography for the film
entitled "La Primavera" at the ICG Emerging
Cinematographer Awards. The film has won several international film
festivals. Recently she was nominated for best cinematography for
the Music Video "Bienvenido al Anochecer"
at Festival de Cristal in Mexico for the Grammy award winner group
La Ley.
Over the years Hilda
has shot several Features Films, Short Films, Music Videos, Commercials
and Documentaries. She has experience with formats ranging from
35mm film to HD/24p.
